READING PASSAGE- MURDER Time-15mins

Read the given passage and then answer the questions given overleaf.

On 22nd November 2006 at 0600 hours at Police station # 4 of the Laguna Region was reported that a dead body that was found in the central park. Alpha Unit responded to the scene of incident located at grid references 114-253. At 0615 hours, two police officers arrived at the scene and observed a 165 cm tall female body lying in supine position behind the bush near the swimming pool. The face of the dead was disfigured and a U- shaped mark was seen on the right side of the neck. They searched the crime scene area and recovered a black leather bag, a 200ml empty bottle and a wrist watch. Two security guards were also interviewed. On the day before at 1830 hours, a guard named Daniel Seal had seen a girl with a man outside the changing room. He had inquired about their presence in the area in the swimming pool service of the park had already closed an hour and a half before. The lights, then suddenly went out and he went to see what had happened. He returned at 1900 hours after fixing the fused wire of the main switch but nobody was there. The guard identified the dead as the same young girl and claimed that he could recognize the man. He described the man as a 25 year old muscular built about 180 cm tall with long dark brown hair, dark completion and had the most unusual involuntary hind movement. The description about the suspect was radioed to all police units and the dead body was sent to the hospital for post mortem.
On 23 November 2006 at 1000 hour, a woman from Bratislava Village came to the police station to report about her missing daughter Emilin Kusnova. She identified herself as Sejila Kusnova and reported to the Missing person unit that her 19 year old daughter had left the house on 21 November at 1500 hours and did not come back since then. She expressed her concern over the disappearance of her missing daughter. At 1100 hour, she was taken to the mortuary; she noticed the birth mark on the right side of the neck and identified the dead as her own daughter.
Three hours later, she arrived at the police station and informs the police about Emilia's fear from a man who lived in Vustri. She told the police that her daughter had once mentioned about a man named Roger Mulav who had asked her to marry him else she would face terrible consequences. At 1630 hours, 28 year old Roger Mulav was arrested by Alpha unit from his house in Vustri. The arrested confessed threatening Emilia to marry him but he denied the allegation of murder.
On 24 November 2006, the post mortem report of Emilia revealed disfigurement of her face was due to acid and concluded her death to asphyxia. From report of the forensic lab it was determined that the empty bottle contained concentrated sulphuric acid and the fingerprint sample of Roger did not match with the forensic report and his features too did not match with the description the suspect.
At 1700 hours, delta unit, on the basis of the description of the suspect, arrested a person named James Blake from 'Burmuda Café' situated in the hilly side. James told the police that he was a carpenter and denied the allegation. On the following day the guard from Central Park identified James as the same person he had seen in the park with the girl. The forensic test also confirmed that his fingerprint sample matched with the sample collected from the surface of the empty bottle. A charge sheet was filed against him for the murder of 19 year old Emilia Kusnova.

READING COMPREHENSION TEST 1   “Fighting” Time-15mins


                On Tuesday 4th November, 2008 at 1345 hrs Timor Leste Police received a telephone call about a fighting incident at the area behind Santa Cruz cemetery. The caller identified himself as Jose Lopes and stated he lives in a blue house at the rear of the cemetery.  He stated he could hear loud shouting and screaming from an area to the south of the cemetery where cock fighting is regularly held.  A Timor Leste Police patrol using call sign Dili-12 was immediately dispatched to the location and arrived at 1356 hrs.
Upon arrival, Dili-12 was met by Jose Lopes who pointed to a large group of males who were fighting at the entrance of Santa Cruz cemetery.  Dili 12 immediately requested that a second police unit attend to assist.  The second unit, Dili 14 arrived at 1403 hrs.
The two patrols attempted to separate the males involved in the fight, however one male ignored police and punched a second male in the face five times using his right fist.  The offending male is described as being 162cm tall, long dark curly hair in a ponytail, tattoo of a dragon on his right forearm, wearing a red t-shirt and black shorts with brown sandals. His name is Francisco Soares.  Dili-12 arrested him and placed him in the rear of the police vehicle.  He was taken to Dili watch house where he was kept until 0800 hrs the next morning. 
The victim Julius Ximines, aged 24 years is described as being 160cm tall, short black hair, black moustache, wearing a blue shirt and blue denim jeans.  He received bruising and swelling to the left side of his face and forehead and a cut to his right cheek which was bleeding.  At 1515 hrs a police forensic unit attended the scene and collected samples of blood on the ground, weapons used and items of clothing worn by persons involved in the fight. 
At 0915 hrs on 5th November Julius Ximines attended Dili Police Station and made a statement.  He advised that he attended the Santa Cruz cemetery around lunch time on 4th November to watch the cock fighting.  He drank about five cans of beer.  About 30 minutes later he heard some males yelling at each other.  He moved closer to see what was happening and a male with a tattoo of a dragon on his arm yelled at him ‘get out of here or I’ll hit you’.  The male then punched him in the face five times.  Julius Ximines did not know the name of the male and had never seen him before.  Julius later attended Dili Hospital where he received 10 stitches to a cut on his right cheek.  Police took photographs of the injuries on his face. Enquiries are continuing in relation to this investigation.
